Now that the well-deserved holiday is just around the corner, this is something to think about.
We arrive at the hotel, check in, take our luggage to the room and throw it without thinking on the bed. While in most hotels and holiday cottages a luggage rack is available. It’s best to really use this.

Let’s see where our suitcase was. To start with the wheels. You drive them over footpaths, parkings, train stations, platforms, airports, … If you are alone and you need to go to the toilet, the suitcase goes with you. You don’t want to think about all the filth on those wheels, visible and invisible.
The suitcase itself, this goes in the trunk of the car or taxi, the luggage compartment of the a bus, together with other suitcases stacked on each other in the plane, on the baggage belt after unloading the plane. Not to mention all the hands handling the suitcases. You can see the result, if the suitcase has a light colour.

And that’s only the visible dirt. And after entering your room or just as bad come home and put the suitcase on the bed, the same one as you are going to sleep in. If there is no luggage rack in the room, you can try and ask one at reception. In very small rooms one can be hidden in the wardrobe or there can be a build-in rack. Worst case scenario can be the floor, which is still better than the bed.
It’s not clear when such luggage rack was invented, but it’s been thought this happened at the end of the 19th century. That’s when more hand-held suitcases came to use instead of those big trunks, which sometimes can be seen in movies on train stations
If you’re using packing cubes, you can keep the suitcase on the floor or rack, fold everything in the cubes on the bed and organise them later in the suitcase.
If you’re often going on a trip, for example for business purposes, it might be handy to get your own luggage rack for home, easy enough to find them online.
Enjoy your holidays, without dirt in your bed.
